The following content is based on my personal experience. It may or may not work for you, so please consider it simply as another perspective and approach to preparing for the exam.

When I first started, I had no background or knowledge about hearing aid dispensing or the business side of it. I ordered a few books from Amazon, and one that really stood out was Introduction to Audiology.

I studied for 4 hours a day over the course of 3 months and passed the written exam on my first attempt.

Here’s something important I realized:
There’s a difference between studying hard and passing the exam. A lot of people aim to get every question right, but in reality, you don’t need a perfect score. You just need to pass, which usually means getting around 70% correct.

Even if you know nothing about a topic, with four answer choices, you still have a 25% chance of guessing correctly. And if you understand test-taking strategies, which I’ve outlined in Sections 1 through 6 of the eBooks, that gives you an additional 10–20% chance of selecting the right answer.

So, if the passing score is 70%, and you can confidently answer 30–40% of the questions through real understanding and strategy, you’ve already got a good shot.

Also, when you study, don’t stress over the material you can’t grasp right away. Just move on. You’ll likely understand it better later. Focus on what you can learn and remember well those are your real tools for passing the exam.

Like most professional exams, the Hearing Aid Dispenser License test includes long and descriptive questions. Simply memorizing definitions won’t cut it. You need to understand the concepts, build knowledge over time, and learn to apply it.

If you trust yourself, you’ll understand the questions. And if you understand the questions, you’re already halfway to finding the right answers.
