What’s the best strategy to pass the Hearing Aid Dispenser license exam?
The following content is based on my personal experience. It may or may not work for you, so please consider it simply as another perspective and approach to preparing for the exam.
When I first started, I had no background or knowledge about hearing aid dispensing or the business side of it. I ordered a few books from Amazon, and one that really stood out was Introduction to Audiology.
I studied for 4 hours a day over the course of 3 months and passed the written exam on my first attempt.
Here’s something important I realized:
There’s a difference between studying hard and passing the exam. A lot of people aim to get every question right, but in reality, you don’t need a perfect score. You just need to pass, which usually means getting around 70% correct.
Even if you know nothing about a topic, with four answer choices, you still have a 25% chance of guessing correctly. And if you understand test-taking strategies, which I’ve outlined in Sections 1 through 6 of the eBooks, that gives you an additional 10–20% chance of selecting the right answer.
So, if the passing score is 70%, and you can confidently answer 30–40% of the questions through real understanding and strategy, you’ve already got a good shot.
Also, when you study, don’t stress over the material you can’t grasp right away. Just move on. You’ll likely understand it better later. Focus on what you can learn and remember well those are your real tools for passing the exam.
Like most professional exams, the Hearing Aid Dispenser License test includes long and descriptive questions. Simply memorizing definitions won’t cut it. You need to understand the concepts, build knowledge over time, and learn to apply it.
If you trust yourself, you’ll understand the questions. And if you understand the questions, you’re already halfway to finding the right answers.
This was my approach to studying—and how I passed, based entirely on my own experience.
How do these eBooks help me pass the Hearing Aid Dispenser License Examination?
As I mentioned earlier, it’s important to understand both the nature of the exam and how efficiently you use your study time. Based on my approach, here’s a rough breakdown of how your score might come together:
- 25% from natural probability (educated guessing)
- 15% from understanding exam patterns and structure
- 15% from studying these eBooks
That adds up to 55%, so you would only need to correctly answer another 15% of the questions on your own through focused study. That’s about 3 out of every 10 remaining questions to pass the exam.
Please note, this breakdown is purely speculative and based on my personal experience. However, I used this strategy to prepare and successfully pass the Hearing Aid Dispenser Licensure Examination.
Are flashcard questions an effective way to prepare for the exam?
Yes. Flashcards are mostly useful for reviewing basic concepts or terminology—kind of like learning computer parts. You might know what a CPU, memory card, or SATA cable is, but that doesn’t mean you can write a letter in Word just because you know the parts inside the computer.
For the Hearing Aid Dispenser exam, it’s more important to understand the flow of knowledge, the nature of hearing, and the practical aspects of dispensing, not just isolated terms from a flashcard.
That said, if you don’t understand the basic concepts, it’s hard to grasp the bigger picture. So, you need to find a balance between both—building your foundation and understanding how everything connects.
Why you made this eBook?
When I decide to pass the hearing aid dispenser license examination, I could not find any valuable information in the online and offline, especially for the hands-on part. After I passed the exam, I decided to let other candidates who prepare the exam know there are more effective ways to pass the exam without wasting their valuable time and energy. This is the main reason I made these eBooks as well as my own small online busiess.
